Our food drive will be October 25 through November 5. We need volunteers to collect cans in the morning and afternoon, hold posters to remind people in the morning and afternoon, and count cans in the afternoon. Sign up outside Mrs. Witter's room.
Remember we are in a competition with Downing so promote this activity as much as you can!!!

First Meeting & Tutoring Opportunity
NJHS Meeting - Our first official meeting will be held next week – Wednesday, September 22 during activity period. Please make plans to come to Mrs. Witter’s room and see what events we have taking place this fall.
Afterschool Tutoring – We have been asked to assist with afterschool tutoring on Thursdays from 4pm-6pm. If you are interested in earning service hours for this and feel you would be a great tutor, please sign up outside Mrs. Parker’s room. On the sign-up sheet, you will need to indicate which subject area you feel you are an “expert” in. After we have volunteers in place, we will set up a schedule. You won’t be responsible for doing this every week. This is a great opportunity to earn hours!

Fall NJHS Happenings
I hope everyone has survived the first couple of weeks of school! Mrs. Witter and I met with your amazing NJHS Officers and planned some great events for the year.
One of the best things we can do as a group is get recognized! To help with that, we are going to pick specific athletic events to support and have a great time with our NJHS friends (these are not service events so no hours will accrue). The first one is:
Thursday, September 9 - 8th grade girls volleyball game Lamar vs. Briarhill at Lamar. Games are 530pm and 630pm.
Wear your NJHS shirt and help cheer on our team to victory!
We do have a service opportunity available as well. Timbercreek Elementary is holding their Fall Festival and would welcome any volunteers. Here are the details:
Friday, September 17 - 6pm-9pm Timbercreek Elementary
If you want to help with that, you will need to locate and find Mrs. Legner the night of the event. She will direct you on what to do and sign off on your hours.
We are also planning a teacher breakfast for Friday, September 24. More details will follow on that.

Welcome to the Lamar Middle School NJHS blog!
Wow! I can't believe that the 2009-2010 school year is almost finished and we'll soon be saying goodbye to the current 8th graders. We have had such a fantastic year and I'm so proud to be involved with NJHS! Many thanks to Mrs. Witter and the 2009-2010 NJHS members for sticking with me through all my questions, inability to answer questions and spur of the moment meeting items!
For the 2010 7th grade inductees, we will be nominating officers on Tuesday. Elections will be held in the computer lab on Friday. Election results will be revealed during announcements on Friday.
For the 2009-2010 8th grade members, don't forget to turn in your hours sheet to Mrs. Witter by June 1.
Peace, Love, Honor,
Mrs. Parker
