What is NJHS?

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a secondary student. The NJHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and community. Chapters in more than 5,000 secondary schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s goals of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.

These five ideals have been considered as the basis for your selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection were:

Scholarship – 92 percent cumulative average in core classes

Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship – These characteristics were all demonstrated by your activities and teacher recommendations.

Membership, however, is more than an honor. It carries with it more than certain privileges. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in your selection.

Your membership also carries a responsibility to the chapter. If our chapter to the National Junior Honor Society is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved. Live up to your Service obligation by participating in all our chapter projects.

Spring 2011 Updates

NJHS Meeting – tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 815am in Mrs. Witter’s room. We will be going over service opportunities available and discussing the dance.

Selling tickets for dance – Sign ups sheets will be available outside Mrs. Witter’s room. We will be selling tickets during B & C lunch next week (Tuesday through Friday).

Winter Ball (We really need a new name for this!) - Friday, April 1

Volunteer opportunity – Serving at a Ladies Tea for CCA. Saturday, April 2 from 12:30 until 3:30 pm. Khaki pants and a white shirt would be OK for attire. Royal Affairs Ballroom in Old Town Lewisville, 140 E. Main St. Sign up outside Mrs. Witter’s room.

Parents – We need your help with snacks and desserts for the dance. We need store-bought spirals (those meat/cheese/veggie roll up things) and store-bought finger food desserts. Please let me know if you are able to help donate these for the dance. The kids are really excited to make this a nice evening and anything you can do will help!
